Banjos, mandolins, and fiddles will be the instruments of choice at the first annual Bluegrass Battles Hunger
Music Festival on Saturday, September 25th at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri.The bluegrass music
festival is a benefit for northwest Missouri’s Second Harvest Community Food Bank which serves 19 counties
throughout northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas.The Bluegrass Battles Hunger Music Festival begins at 1:00 pm at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri.The stage will be set up in center-field at Phil Welch stadium, with patrons viewing from the outfield area.The festival will be held rain or shine.Ticket prices: VIP – $30 includes admission, premium seating, t-shirt and VIP only concessions. General
admission tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the festival. Advance tickets can be purchased at
HyVee and the Second Harvest Community Food Bank.A $5.00 per ticket discount is available with a nonperishable
food donation to the Second Harvest Community Food Bank. Children 10 and under get in free

The Bluegrass Battles Hunger committee is also presenting the first annual Home-made Fruit Pie Baking
Contest. The competition is open to anyone with a special talent for baking fruit pies and it is free to enter.
Four identical pies are requested for each entry received and accepted. One of the pies will be judged at an
advertised competition at the Southside Fall Festival in St. Joseph.The remaining pies will be sold or auctioned
off and the winner will receive special recognition at the Bluegrass Battles Hunger Music Festival.
