Green Hills Quilt Guild and Ice Cream Social

The Green Hills Quilt Guild and the Daviess County Library are sponsoring a quilt show and Ice Cream Social to celebrate Missouri’s Bicentennial Anniversary of Statehood, August 10, 2021. This date will mark the 200th anniversary of Missouri’s entry as the twenty-fourth state in the United States of America.
The show will be held 8/10-8/13, Tuesday through Friday, during Library hours, which are Tuesday – Thursday 9:00-6:00 and Friday 9:00-5:00.
A quilt challenge will be offered throughout the week for young and old, beginner and expert sewers. Bring scraps of red, white, and blue along with a little brown [if you have them] for the challenge. Learning stations and Guild members will be at the site as reference for great techniques and tricks for sewing. This will be a fun event for all.
Exhibitors will represent both Guild members and the public’s creations. The venue can support display of approximately 55 quilts, so space is limited and preregistration is encouraged. Exhibitors that want to display their handiwork, whether quilt, throw, table topper, or clothing (Please, no tied creations.) should call Janet at (660) 605-2170 for phone-in registration or visit local quilt shops or the library to acquire exhibitor entry forms, exhibit entry labels, and exhibit hours and contact information. Exhibits should be transported to the Library between 9:00-12:00 Tuesday and taken home from 9:00-11:00 Saturday, 8/14, promptly.
Viewer’s Choice & Guild Choice Awards will be selected. Ballots will be available at the door to vote for your favorite quilts.
In addition to hosting the Quilt Guild in the library community room, the library will recognize this historic date by holding an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social on Tuesday evening from 4-6pm in the lower, west parking lot/lawn—reminiscent of the good old days on the Courthouse lawn with hand-churned ice cream and from scratch cakes! Ice cream will be provided by the Gallatin Men’s Club and cake will be served by library staff and volunteers from the board and Friends of the Library. Community clubs and organizations are invited to assist by baking cakes and may contact the library for details.
The library has previously celebrated the Bicentennial year by sponsoring a poster contest last winter for school age children for which Esther Richardson won state recognition, and is currently sponsoring a Daviess County Photo Contest for teens and adults through its Tails and Tales Summer Reading Program (This summer reading project is supported by the Institute of Museum and
Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library. A division of the Office of the Secretary of State.). The photo contest ends this Saturday, July 24th. All photos must be submitted by midnight. For more information, please contact Amy at the library.
Both the Daviess County Library and the Green Hills Quilt Guild invite you to participate, celebrate, and enjoy the week!
