Traveling North Missouri by Congressman Sam Graves
Dear Friend,

It was another busy week in North Missouri. I was able to get out and talk with folks about the issues of the day and visit some of the everyday heroes who are on the front lines of this pandemic.

Meeting with North Missouri Superintendents

I met with school superintendents from across the district to hear their concerns and plans for reopening their schools this year. We discussed the importance of liability protection during COVID-19, the lack of broadband internet access and what Congress is doing to address it, USDA school lunch programs and several other topics. We had a great discussion and I will take their concerns back to Washington as we look at what other avenues we can pursue to assist them in taking on this challenging school year.

Regional Planning Commissions Meeting

Our Regional Planning Commissions do great work to ensure that all of our counties in North Missouri are able to thrive. Just last week, it was announced that they would be getting additional funding through the CARES Act to help our businesses recover. Many have also taken on the task of helping get CARES Act County funding to those who apply. Directors of all of our Regional Planning Commissions came together in Trenton to update me on their work and I appreciated hearing from them.

Hedrick Medical Center

Workers at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe have been on the front lines, fighting this pandemic since it began. I appreciated the opportunity to stop by and thank them, as well as hear the challenges the hospital faces in light of COVID-19. They, along with all of our medical facilities, are doing outstanding work and I’m grateful for them.

LifeFlight Eagle

Getting folks who are severely injured or critically ill to the hospital in a timely manner can sometimes be a challenge in rural Missouri. However, the helicopter has served as a key medical transport vehicle to remedy that problem. LifeFlight Eagle recently moved their base of operations in Chillicothe to a new facility and I was able to stop by, see their facility and their air ambulances.

I always enjoy visiting with constituents and seeing the many unique things in North Missouri. As always, if there’s anything I can help you with or something you’d like me to see, don’t hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Sam Graves
