Lathrop Woman Indicted by Federal Grand Jury Tuesday in Plattsburg Road District Theft
A Lathrop woman was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday for allegedly stealing from the Plattsburg Road District.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri says 58-year-old Ava Lea Langner faces a charge of theft from an agency receiving federal funds.
Langner, former secretary and treasurer of the Plattsburg Special Road District, allegedly stole more than five-thousand dollars from the district between May 2016 and April 2017.
The indictment says Langner allegedly made unauthorized payments to her personal business, her personal credit card, and other vendors for personal expenses.
Langner was able to use funds from a checking account owned by the road district.
A public report from the State Auditor’s Office says at least 286-thousand dollars was misappropriated from the district between 2011 to 2018.
This case was investigated by the FBI, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Missouri State Auditor.
