3 Seriously Injured, Driver Facing Felony Charges In Buchanan County Accident

3 were seriously injured following a pickup accident early Saturday morning near DeKalb in Buchanan County. The driver of the pickup is also facing felony charges.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 22 year old Zachary Novotny of Rushville was driving a pickup westbound on Southwest Sampson Road and went off the side of the roadway and down an embankment. The pickup’s front bumper hit the embankment. The vehicle eventually stopped in a creek.

The driver and two female passengers were taken to Mosaic Life Care in St Joseph. 18 year old Madelyn McKnight of Agency and a 16-year old female from Rushville were also in the vehicle.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Highway Patrol. Zach Novotny has been charged with Felony DWI-Causing Serious Physical Injury.

The accident took place just after 1:30am Saturday morning.
