Two Area Women Hurt in Two Vehicle Crash Tuesday Evening

Two Northwest Missouri women were left with injuries following a two-vehicle accident Tuesday evening on Business Highway 71 just south of Savannah.
Troop H of the Highway Patrol says at 5:35 P.M. Tuesday 47-year-old St. Joseph resident Bridget R. Whitten was driving a 1993 Plymouth Voyager southbound on business highway 71 about a quarter-mile south of Savannah when she slowed to make a left-hand turn.
At that point, her Plymouth was hit from behind by a 2007 Mitsubishi outlander being driven by 53-year-old Savannah resident Michelle M. Cairo. The impact sent the Plymouth off the east side of the roadway and into the median where it came to rest. The Mitsubishi came to rest in the roadway.
Whitten was wearing a seat belt but suffered moderate injuries. Cairo was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. Both women were taken by Andrew County EMS to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph for treatment.
