$500 MO Tax Rebate Debated Wednesday

A House bill sponsored by Republican Representative Cody Smith of Carthage would sponsor a tax credit of up to $500 to go towards Missourians who paid personal income tax in 2021.

While the goal of the bill has bipartisan support, many Democrats strongly opposed the bill in floor debate on Wednesday.

Democratic Rep. Lakeysha Bosley of St. Louis opposes the bill and worries it is unfair for her constituents who make too little to pay income tax.

Republican Representative Dirk Deaton of Noel says that this tax credit would support citizens who haven’t received support from other government relief programs.

The House gave first round approval to the bill in the session on Wednesday.
