Missouri Lawmaker Files Bill to Help Expand State’s Childcare System

(MISSOURINET) – Missouri has been dealing with a workforce shortage and lack of access to affordable childcare has been cited as a major part of the problem. State Representative Brenda Shields is proposing tax credits for childcare providers, donors to daycare centers, and businesses who help to cover the childcare costs of their employees.

Shields, a Republican from St. Joseph, says under her bill, the state could provide up to 20-million-dollars annually for each of the three types of proposed tax credits. A Missouri House committee is reviewing the bill.
