Attorney General Pens Letter to KC Mayor

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey penned a letter in response to Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas’s remarks welcoming illegal immigrants.

In his letter, Bailey clarified that knowingly transporting people he calls “illegal aliens” is a Class D Misdemeanor in the state of Missouri.

Bailey wrote about the “real world consequences” of open border policies, referencing the death of Laken Riley, a college student allegedly abducted and killed by Jose Antonio Ibarra, who is believed to have entered the country illegally from Venezuela.

In his own statement, Mayor Lucas clarified that his offer of welcome was for “persons who are lawfully present with lawful work permits.”

According to Bailey, those comments ignore “the underlying issue.”

The Attorney General called the current federal open border programs “illegal” and Lucas’s “tacit support” of them “repugnant to the rule of law.”
