A Man in St. Joseph Injured Stopping Thief from Stealing His Truck

A man in St. Joseph was injured while stopping a thief from stealing his truck.

The St. Joseph Police responded at 11:20 p.m. on Monday to a report of an attempted vehicle theft at 1040 S. Belt Highway. An employee of Jimmy John’s was getting off of work and standing outside of his running truck.

A person walking down the street suddenly jumped into the vehicle and put it in gear, taking off with it. The owner managed to jump into the vehicle’s driver’s seat with the thief.

The truck went south across Seneca Street and into the parking lot of a Dunkin’ Donuts undergoing construction. They struck a utility pole, snapping it in half and then continued into a newly constructed concrete wall.

The suspect was taken into custody after being cleared at Mosaic Life Care while the owner suffered minor injuries.
