A New Strain of Coronavirus has been Documented in Kansas. Could Missouri be Next?

COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations are slowing in Missouri, but experts are carefully watching a new strain of the virus that’s spread in parts of the U.S. The new variant, which first spread in the U.K. and South Africa, has been found in 22 U.S. States, including Kansas. While the new variant could cause reinfection, there’s no evidence to support that it’s more deadly, or causes more intense symptoms. Missouri Western State University Professor, Dr. Gary Clapp, says the best defense continues to be face masks.

Experts say the more vaccines that get out, the less chance the virus has of mutating.
