Abortion Rights Amendment Fight Reaches State Supreme Court

An effort to restore abortion rights in Missouri has made its way to the state Supreme Court.

The high court is considering a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri that is designed to require the state to finish its work on the potential 2024 ballot measure.

The state auditor and attorney general, both Republicans, are at odds over the cost estimate of the proposal – derailing the potential gathering of petition signatures.

Jason Lewis, with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, says the state auditor’s office does not take into account certain costs.

Tony Rothert, with the American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri, calls the attorney general’s move “legal gymnastics”.

The Supreme Court could rule at any time.
