Agency Man Charged After Four Injuries in Sunday Accident

Four people were injured, and one faces charges, in a Clinton County accident Sunday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on U.S. 169 at Route VV, a mile north of Gower, when a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Agency resident Clinton W. Cashatt was heading northbound.

Troopers say Cashatt failed to yield to an eastbound vehicle being driven by 41-year-old Smithville resident Matthew R. Schmidt.

Schmidt’s vehicle struck the passenger’s side of Cashatt’s Hummer and both vehicles came to a rest.

Two minors in Cashatt’s vehicle, ages 10 and 13, both reported moderate injuries.

Schmidt and a passenger, 37-year-old Elizabeth R. Schmidt, suffered minor and moderate injuries.

Troopers say none of the three in Cashatt’s vehicle were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, while both Schmidts were.

Following the crash, troopers arrested Cashatt on preliminary charges of felony driving while intoxicated involved an accident with physical injury, endangering the welfare of a child-creating a substantial risk, endangering the welfare of a child-causing physical injury, failure to display valid plates, not having valid insurance, and failure to yield.

Cashatt was taken to the Clinton County Jail and booked on a 24-hour hold.
