Another Voter ID Bill Debated

The Elections committee of the Missouri House discussed two pieces of legislation that would require voters to provide a valid form of photo identification at the voting booth.

Republican John Simmons introduced both a bill and a joint resolution believing that this voter identification law would help secure and protect every Missourian’s vote.

Democrat David Tyson Smith fears that this legislation may depress voter turnout and make it more difficult for individuals to access their right to vote. Especially in African-American communities.

If legislators passed this resolution voters could expect to see the issue on the state-wide ballot.
