ATV Operator Killed In Drag Race At Mercer Homecoming Park

An ATV operator, competing in an ATV drag race, died during an accident at the Mercer Homecoming Park Saturday evening.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 64 year old Billy Nichols of DeKalb was unable to stop at the conclusion of a race and hit a utility pole. The driver was taken to Wright Memorial Hospital following the accident, but died at the hospital, about 90 minutes after the accident.
The accident took place at 6:30pm Saturday evening. The Mercer Homecoming Park is located about a half mile north of Mercer.
