Bethany Council Beginning Plans For 2021 Street Overlay Project

Bethany’s Board of Aldermen agreed to a bid for the demolition of a couple properties within the city and a new contract with Porter Trash for waste removal service during a meeting held on Monday night.

Red Rock of Kidder received the bid for two demolition properties. The total bid was $10,500. The properties are located at 2019 Main and 601 South 9th. The new waste removal service contract with Porter Trash will be a 5 year contract. The city will pay Porter $12.12 per resident each month. The cost will be $9.46 per senior citizen resident. The city will keep 10 percent of the cost for billing.

City council members agreed to allow Midwest Public Adjusting to become involved with the negotiation involved for a resolution regarding a potential insurance payment for the Bethany Gymnasium Roof for the Bethany Parks Department. During a presentation made earlier in the month, the representative stated that he will only be paid if he obtains a payment from the insurance company. The city elected not to use his services to serve as a mediary for the Bethany Library’s roof for the covered parking area.

Bethany’s council received information from the Bethany Library Board on their Phase II Reopening Plan. That plan would allow the Library to be open on Tuesday from 9am until 5:30pm and on Friday from 9am until 3pm. There will be a limit of 10 people at a time in the building at one time. There will be two computers and 3 laptops available. Bathrooms will be closed to the public. The city has also requested a Phase III reopening plan for review by the middle on November.

City Administrator Jacob Taylor has presented Herzog Construction with streets that could be possible projects for the city’s 2021 street project. The city would like to obtain estimates for street overlay work on those streets. The city plans to budget $300,000 for street overlay projects. When the estimates are obtained, the council will make a decision about the streets to be included in the project.

Bethany’s council also approved a new 3 year contract with the city administrator at the session.
