Bethany Council Updated On Project Timelines

Bethany’s Board of Aldermen received several updates on timelines for projects during a meeting held Monday night. The lighting project planned for I-35 is anticipated to begin sometime in May. The gas project will have a starting time of either late summer or early fall. The water main project is completed. The roadwork needed due to the project will be done when the ground settles.

The city is reminding those interested in the Missouri Main Street Program that a town hall meeting will be held on Monday, March 28th at 5pm in the Bethany Community Gym. The program helps to fund downtown revitalization programs. A 4-point approach to revitalization will be presented. There will also be a chance to contribute suggestions or ideas. The meeting will be held from 5 until 7pm. The city has authorized $74,000 in American Rescue Plan Funding to Downtown Bethany, Incorporated. Those selected for that board will review grants for businesses for exterior improvements.

Bids were approved for poles for the city’s annual pole replacement project. Integrated Controls received the bid for the SCADA system for the Water Treatment Plant. The board also discussed a request for garage door openers for the city’s fire department.

Bethany’s Street Department will be placing a tube at the New City Lake with large rock to fix a low water crossing that serves as an access point for the West Side Park Area and new fishing dock.

Works has started on the stairwell of the Bethany Community Gym. The removal of the snack stand and storage barn at Babe Adams has started. The Fitzgerald Foundation will provide funding to construct a new bathroom and snack stand facility. That construction is expected late in the spring.

Trash bins have been ordered. 100 trash cans have been ordered. A May shipment is expected. The city plans a cost sharing arrangement for city residents interested in using the trash bins.
