Bethany Man Facing Formal Assault Charges after April Accident
A Bethany man is facing charges stemming from an accident in April.
According to court records, the accident took place on April 2nd when 18-year old Jacob Maize was driving on US 136 Highway west of Bethany in the wrong lane when he struck a vehicle driven by 80-year old Albany resident Leroy Gooding head-on.
Maize was taken to the Harrison County Community Hospital with serious injuries. Gooding was transported to the Harrison County Community Hospital with moderate injuries. A 15-year old male in Maize’s vehicle was taken to Harrison County Community Hospital with serious injuries and a 17-year old female was taken by Life Flight Eagle to Children’s Mercy with serious injuries. The 15-year old male and 17-year old female are both from Bethany.
Court documents say Maize and his passengers had been smoking marijuana before the accident.
Maize has been charged with three counts of second-degree felony assault and one count of first-degree property damage. A criminal summons was issued for Maize to appear in court on November 10th.
