Bethany Train Depot Move Discussed By Bethany City Council
Bethany’s Board of Aldermen discussed the move of the Bethany Train Depot during Monday night’s meeting. The move is planned for this fall and will move the Depot from its current site to land located on the north side of the Israel land which was purchased by the city. A meeting was held Friday with Patton Structural, who has been contracted for the move. City Administrator Jacob Taylor told council members that the prep work needed for the floor and footings will be done by the city after the ground is prepared for the building. The city will pay for the concrete for the project. Council members would like to keep the items located inside Depot as period-specific as possible.
Council members also received a copy of the 12-year strategic sidewalk plan for the Israel ground. Administrator Taylor proposed allowing grass to grow up this year and cut out the trails with mowers. The mowing will allow people to see where the trails are planned and can start using those trails. A Federal Recreational Trails application is being sought to help in the financing for the program. Administrator Taylor proposed that the city council consider a resolution at their next meeting which states the city intends to provide a 20 percent match for the project over the next 3 years. That match could cost about $260,000.
Council members approved the purchase of an outfitted police car.
The council also agreed to be part of the class action suit on behalf of Missouri municipalities regarding video fees against Netflix, Hulu, Direct TV, and Dish. The suit claims not all the fees are being paid on video service revenues.
GRM Networks is also designating the City of Bethany as a Smart Rural Community which helps promote the opportunities provided by fiber. A recognition presentation will be made at South Harrison’s basketball game on Thursday at 6pm.
