Blood Center Announces Blood Emergency

The Community Blood Center has announced a blood emergency. The center says school breaks and increased travel have caused a drop in donations over the past month. The blood supply is at a 2-to-3 day level. Types O and B are at a 1-to-2 day supply. The ideal inventory is at 5-to-7 days.

The blood center reports about one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease, and many more.
