Cameron Residents Hurt, One Arrested, After Clay County Accident Wednesday Night

 

A three vehicle Clay County crash Wednesday night has left five people with injuries, two of them described as serious, and a Cameron man facing felony level charges.

Troop A of the Highway Patrol says at 9:50 P.M. Wednesday a 2013 Hyundai Sonata being driven southbound by 31-year-old Cameron resident Matthew W. Ross ran a red light at the intersection of U.S. 169 and 92 Highways. The Ross vehicle struck am eastbound 2013 Volkswagen Rotan being driven by 60-year-old Smithville resident Brenda K. Wisner as it was attempting to make a left turn.

That collision caused the Ross vehicle to overturn and struck a northbound 2013 Dodge Journey being driven by 62-year-old Smithville resident David L. Suma.

Matthew Ross was wearing a seat belt but suffered minor injuries and was taken to Liberty Hospital for treatment. Ross was arrested on charges of felony driving while intoxicated causing serious physical injuries, felony leaving the scene of an accident, and felony tampering with a motor vehicle.

Three passengers in the Ross vehicle were also injured. The accident report lists 26-year-old Cameron resident Kelcey E. Ross as wearing a seat belt and 33-year-old Kansas City resident DeAndrre Green not wearing a seat belt. Both suffered serious injuries and were transported to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment.

Another Kansas City resident, 27-year-old Jessica D. Vigil, was also listed as not wearing a seat belt and suffering moderate injuries. She too was transported to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment.

Brenda Wisner was wearing a seat belt but suffered minor injuries and was taken to Liberty Hospital for treatment.

No injuries were listed from the Suma vehicle.
