Cameron Woman and Grain Valley Man Suffer Serious Injuries in Saturday Crash

A Cameron woman and Grain Valley man suffered serious injuries in a Saturday accident in Clay County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on I-35, just north of mile marker 22.6, when a vehicle driven by 45-year-old Cameron resident Jamie S. Hammett was stopped heading northbound.

Troopers say Hammett was stopped partially blocking the driving lane of I-35 and was struck from behind by a vehicle being driven by 71-year-old Grain Valley resident Gary P. Hudgens.

Authorities say Hammett’s vehicle went off the right side of the road and ejected Hammett in the process.

Hudgens and Hammett both suffered serious injuries and were taken to Liberty Hospital for treatment.

Troopers say both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
