Central Decatur Approves Slightly Earlier Start To The School Day

Central Decatur School board members received information that 92 to 94% of the district’s students plan to start the school year in-person based on a parent survey taken during registration. During their August meeting, Central Decatur also approved a recommendation to begin classes at the north Elementary and at the Middle/High School at 8:05 for the school year. That time is 5 minutes earlier for North Elementary students and 10 minutes earlier for Middle/High School students. The time change is being made to help with sanitizing between classes and lunches and promote smaller sections at the Middle/High School.

Central Decatur’s district has received $42,800 to increase connectivity for students. Human Resources Director Becca Harvey talked about the use of a climate/culture survey that would use data to inform actions for continued system growth and improvement. A recommendation of Panorama was approved for for staff surveys. The one year contract will cost $4,750.

Central Decatur board members approved increasing the substitute teacher rate from $100 to $115. The board also approved agreements with the South Central Iowa Theater Rental Agreement for fall and spring play performances and practices, the Head Start Memorandum of Understanding, and a Shared Personnel Agreement for a Secondary Business Teacher with Lamoni.

Superintendent Chris Coffelt also reviewed some district projects with the board. Those included the epoxy floor project and the installation of two security cameras at the South Elementary. He also discussed the possibility of purchasing HVAC units from another school district for use at the South Elementary. There was no action taken on that information.

Central Decatur’s board accepted a resignation of Makayla Andrews as Assistant High School Volleyball Coach. Tracy Andrews was approved for that position.
