Central Decatur Board Approves Tax Rate For New Budget Year

Central Decatur School Board members approved a budget resolution for the 2022-23 school year during their April meeting. The tax rate for the budget year will be $12.41 per $1,000 valuation. There is a budget guarantee which is a mechanism intended to respond to declining enrollment that allows districts to receive an increase of 1 percent over the prior year’s Regular Program District Cost. The district is not expected to be eligible for the guarantee for the next year, but they were advised to adopt the resolution in case they are eligible.

Central Decatur will hold a board work session on May 10th to review proposals and priorities regarding the district facilities’ master planning process.

The board approved the purchase of Kajeet SmartBus Wi-Fi to be installed on ten buses with one year of internet service that was made possible through an Emergency Connectivity Fund.

The board approved ESSER funding being used to fund $1,000 payments to all staff in September which is contingent upon them signing a contract and returning to the district.

The board approved contracts with Southwestern Community College for a Nurse Assisting Career Academy, Welding Career Academy, Carpentry and Building Trades, and Online Arts and Science courses. Contracts for a Welding Career Academy and Health Science Career Academy were also also approved.

The board approved hires of Alex Burnette for Secondary Business, Doreta Bear for Secondary Science, Christopher Dyer for Secondary Science, Seth Baumfalk for Assistant High School Volleyball, Mindy Hamilton as Summer School Coordinator, and Cayle Buckingham as Elementary School Counselor.
