Central Decatur School Board Discusses Facility Needs

Central Decatur School Board members received the District’s Facility Needs Assessment that was completed during the spring during their August school board meeting. Estes Construction presented improvement and repair items that include safety and security measures and projects, the HVAC system, and roofing detail. A representative of the Piper Sandler Financial Services company also gave information on the district financing options for the infrastructure that included Sales Tax Bonds, the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy, and general obligation bond. There could be federal ESSER funding that may be available for certain projects. The board plans to continue meeting on the topic to determine a course of action.

Central Decatur’s board approved the 2021-22 CD Return to Learn Plan that includes the District’s COVID-19 mitigation measures. The plan will be reviewed every 6 months and posted on the school’s website.

The board approved the annual rental agreement with the SCIT Theatre at $3,000. The facility is used for the performances and practices for Central Decatur fall and spring plays.

Central Decatur will share the Secondary Business Teacher position with the Lamoni School District during the school year.

A speaker for a speaker system for the North Elementary gym was approved. Central Decatur’s District has received a $5,000 grant to help with the purchase.
