Central Decatur School Board Reorganizes In November Session

Central Decatur School Board members held a reorganizational meeting following November’s election. The election confirmed Andrew Sullivan to serve in District 2, Nick Tharp in District 3 and Sean Saxton for the At-Large Seat. All will serve 4-year terms. Voters also approved the district’s Revenue Purpose Statement with 76 percent support. That vote allows the district to access SAVE funds through the year 2050.

During the reorganization, Central Decatur’s board voted Amber Swartz as Board President, Cassy Allen as Vice-President, and appointed Becky Broich as Secretary/Treasurer. Meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the month.

Estes Construction’s representative reviewed the progress on the school’s HVAC projects. The high school gymnasium floor needs minor items for its completion, but students are able to practice on the floor, and physical education classes can also be held on the floor.

The district will begin the process to select a new architecture and design firm for facility master planning services.

The board discussed offering an early retirement incentive. A decision will be made at the December board meeting. The board will also review an early notification incentive.

Board members approved the increase of the certified long-term substitute teacher pay rate at $183.25 per day. A sub that has worked ten consecutive days in the same assignment will be paid the long-term sub rate for each day they remain in that assignment.

The board approved the renewal of snow removal with DCLI, Incorporated. A Recycling Disposal Agreement and the 28E Agreement for use of the wash bays at the Transportation Facility with Decatur County were also renewed.

Jessica Muller was hired as a Middle School English Teacher beginning in January. Zach Mendenhall was hired as the Head Middle School Boys Basketball Coach. Colby Wilken was hired as an Assistant Middle School Wrestling Coach.
