Central Decatur Votes to Keep Masks Optional for Students/Staff

After a Federal Court Judge issued a temporary restraining order allowing Iowa school districts to adopt policies requiring masks on school district property, the Central Decatur Board of Education met in regular session to consider how to best protect the health and safety of its students and staff.

The Federal Court ruling is a temporary order that blocks the Iowa law passed earlier this year prohibiting school mask mandates.

The Central Decatur Board of Education ultimately determined to leave masks as an option for students and staff in school buildings. The District says it will continue to monitor positivity rates in the classrooms, buildings and throughout the county to determine what practices may need to be revised or implemented.

The Federal Court will hold hearings at a later date to determine if it’s temporary ban on the mask mandate law will be made permanent.
