Clay County Authorities Handle Explosive Situation In Missouri City

Clay County authorities Tuesday had to deal with an explosive situation in the small town of Missouri City, in southeastern Clay County.

According to information from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a residence in Missouri City at about 10:30 A.M. Tuesday on reports of a resident finding possible explosives in his yard. That resident informed officers he had placed the possible explosive in a box inside his home and then taken that box and placed it adjacent to railroad tracks.

Deputies then ordered the temporary closure of the railroad tracks and evacuated the surrounding area, all while requesting the assistance of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department’s Bomb and Arson Unit.

The KCPD Bomb Squad, however, discovered the box did not contain an explosive device.

The resident said he must have grabbed the wrong box and took deputies inside his home and showed them the correct box.

The Bomb Squad safely removed that box, which did contain an explosive device, and rendered the device safe shortly before 1:30 P.M.

The Sheriff’s Office says their investigation into the incident will continue.
