Clinton County Health Reports COVID Surge and New Deaths

The Clinton County Health Department is reporting another surge in COVID 19 cases in the county and an additional death.

According to information released from the department show infection numbers as high as they have been at any time during the pandemic, showing more than 170 cases per week over the past three weeks. Additional deaths in the county have brought Clinton County’s pandemic death toll to 107 and according to the department at least one was fully vaccinated.

Clinton County Health Director Blair Shock tells Regional Radio “The turn around in reporting deaths takes a little longer. I am aware of some, but we don’t report it as a death until the Death Certificate is filed, and we have confirmed that they were a COVID death. I can tell you we have had 4 in the last two weeks in Clinton County.”

Another side affect of COVID case increases is the strain on area hospital capacity. The Health Department says capacity in our region has reached a critical level and they remind you that an emergency room is not an appropriate place to seek COVID testing and should only be utilized if you are experiencing a medical emergency.

Vaccination remains the best way to prevent COVID-19 infection, as well as prevent severe illness hospitalization and death. The Clinton County Health Department hosts walk-in clinics every Monday and Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 A.M. and 1:00 until 4:30 P.M.
