Clinton County Inmates Charged With Assault in Separate Incidents
PLATTSBURG MO – Two Clinton County inmates have been charged with assaulting jail staff in separate incidents.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office said the first incident took place on February 10th as a Detention Officer was attempting to retrieve a tablet from 23-year-old Shawn Michael Cooper-Orr from Kansas City. Cooper-Orr was originally incarcerated on felony drug charges stemming from an incident in May, 2021.
Officers say Cooper-Orr handed the tablet to the officer, but then struck him multiple times in the face causing injury around his eye and left bottom lip. The officer got the inmate to the ground where he bit the officer on the arm three times. Cooper-Orr is now charged with First Degree Assault. Bond is set at $50,000.
The second incident is reported to have taken place on February 12th in the jail. The Sheriff’s Office says 21-year-old Dreaun Romello Thurman of Grandview, Missouri, is alleged to have refused to “lock-down” in his cell. Officers attempted to subdue Thurman when he struck one of the detention officers with a mop handle. Law enforcement deployed a taser and used OC spray to get the inmate under control.
Thurman is now facing third degree Assault of a special victim with bond set at $50,000.
