Clinton County Voters to Decide on Law Enforcement Sales Tax

Clinton County voters will be deciding on November 2nd if a law enforcement sales tax should be put in place to provide for a full-time prosecuting attorney.  If approved by voters, the sales tax would have a 10-year sunset.

According to Clinton County Sheriff Larry Fish, the tax would supplement funding for the Coroner’s Office, Prosecutor’s Office, Sheriff’s Office and Victim Advocate.  Sheriff’s deputies starting pay would receive an increase from its current rate of $25,000 per year.  Dispatchers and detention staff would also receive a pay raise.

Sheriff Fish says his department would also be updating equipment and outfitting staff with proper basic tools needed to do their job safely and more efficiently.
