(MISSOURINET) – A Missouri S&T research team has been awarded a 2-million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to research ways to improve the efficiency of electric arc furnaces used for the making of steel. Missouri S&T’s Dr. Ron O’Malley is leading the study…
The grant is part of a larger three-part project. In the current phase, new fiber optic sensing technologies will be used to better determine operating cost, yield, and energy efficiency. They will be installed at the two partner steel plants in Arkansas and Alabama.
