Court Battle This Week On Missouri Trans Kid Laws
A court battle is underway this week on a pending Missouri law that would restrict transgender healthcare for children.
The American Civil Liberties of Missouri and Lambda Legal want to block the start of the law that is scheduled to begin on August 28.
Senate Bill 49 would ban Missouri doctors from prescribing or giving cross-sex hormones or puberty-blocking drugs or providing gender transition surgeries to children under the age of 18.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s office will be defending the bill in court this week.
The ACLU and Lambda Legal say the bill denies transgender children access to “evidence-based gender-affirming medical care while stripping parents of their fundamental right to make medical decisions for their children.”
