DeKalb County Sheriff Warns Of Impostor Officer
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says they have received a pair of complaints of a person impersonating an officer and conducting traffic stops in the Maysville and Fairport area.
According to a post via Facebook, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says two calls have come into their office regarding a man that conducted two traffic stops last week.
The first stop was conducted on Thursday, February 16 around 8:30 A.M. on State Route A near Fairport. The “officer” was driving an unmarked gray or silver newer model Denali SUV with emergency lights on the inside dash of the vehicle. The second stop was made at 7:10 A.M. Friday, February 17, also on State Route A.
In both cases the “officer” told the drivers he pulled them over for driving too slow. In both cases the driver told the “officer” they were traveling slow due to road conditions with ice and snow. The “officer” then asked the drivers if they had anything that could harm him in the vehicle before telling them to drive safe and walking back to his vehicle.
The individual impersonating the officer is described as being about six foot tall, of average size, in his mid 30’s and was wearing a gray or tan uniform that said “COUNTY DEPUTY/SHERIFF” on the front.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says they did not conduct any stops on either of those days at that time, and that after contacting other local law enforcement it appears none of them did either.
The Sheriff’s Office says if you are pulled over by an unmarked car you should comply and safely pull over. If the situation does not seem right, call 911 and verify the person pulling you over is law enforcement.
If anyone has any information, or has seen the suspect or the vehicle involved in these incidents, they are asked to contact the DeKalb County Sheriff at 816-449-5802.
