Drivers Reminded to Be Alert As Holiday Traffic Increases

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Drivers are reminded to be courteous and attentive as holiday travel will pick up as we get closer to Thanksgiving.

The counting period for the 2022 Thanksgiving holiday weekend is from 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 23rd through 11:59 p.m. Sunday the 27th. Missouri State Troopers will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. enforcing all traffic laws and available to assist the public.

Over the 2021 Thanksgiving holiday counting period, 12 people were killed and 540 injured in 1,365 traffic crashes. Statistics show someone was injured or killed every 11 minutes over the 2021 Thanksgiving holiday on Missouri highways.

Drivers should make sure their vehicles are in good condition and should be well rested before starting to drive. The highway patrol reminds drivers there is never a reason to speed, drive aggressively, or drive impaired.
