The Missouri and Iowa Drought Monitor Maps released Thursday were very similar to the maps for both states from last week.

Missouri has only 15 percent of acreage with any form of dryness. 3 percent of the state is in moderate drought. The pockets of dryness are located in southwestern Missouri and  the bootheel of the state.

Iowa’s map continues to include 6 percent of Extreme Drought in the west central part of the state. There is another 12 percent of the state in Severe Drought. Another 12 percent of acreage is considered to be in Moderate Drought. Iowa, as a state, has 80 percent of its acreage in some form of dryness.

The estimated population in Iowa drought areas totals just over 1 million.
