Fatality Accident Closes I-35 in Harrison County for Several Hours

BETHANY, MO – A Minnesota man was killed in an early morning accident on I-35 south of Bethany.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred as 40-year old Ibrahim Mohamud of Lexington, Nebraska was driving a Freightliner southbound. After entering a construction zone his vehicle went off the west side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The semi then struck a concrete bridge rail and overturned onto its top, coming to rest on its top, blocking southbound I-35.

A passenger, 21-year old Guled Abib of Minneapolis, Minnesota was pronounced dead at the scene.  Mohaumd was not injured.

The accident took place around 4 a.m. and was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol with assistance from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and the Bethany Police Department.
