Feral Hogs Remain a problem in 38 Missouri counties

Feral hogs remain a problem in 38 Missouri counties, mostly south of Interstate 44.

Alan Leary is Wildlife Management Coordinator for the Missouri Department of Conservation. He tells Missourinet that they’re making progress on reducing the feral hog population.

Trapping is the primary weapon used against feral hogs, but Leary says they also shoot the herds from the air using helicopters.

Residents are urged NOT to shoot the hogs, as loud gunfire can scatter most of the herd, or sounder. Instead, report any sightings to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
