Governor Announces Call For Special Session Expansion

Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced the expansion of the current special session intended to assist the growing backlog of murder cases in St. Louis.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt says it’s about having more capacity to prosecute and creating an “all hands on deck” mentality.

In his remarks, the governor stated that Missouri has already experienced more homicides in 2020 than all of 2019, putting the state on track to have its deadliest year on record. As of August 9, there have been 161 murders in St. Louis so far this year.
