Governor Parson’s Budget Proposal Includes Transferring Operations Between Cameron Prisons
(Missourinet) Governor Parson’s state budget proposal for the next fiscal year includes a proposal to transfer operations from one Missouri prison to another.
The proposal would move prisoners from Western Missouri Correctional Center in Cameron to the other prison there – Crossroads Correctional Center. In 2019, Missouri consolidated the two northwest Missouri prisons to help improve staffing. With the reduced offender population, the Missouri Department of Corrections says it can move operations from the larger prison to the smaller Crossroads prison, which is a newer and a more modern institution. The state agency says it is not anticipated that offenders will need to be transferred to any other prisons and no other prisons are scheduled for similar moves. In order for this to become a reality, the Missouri Legislature must approve of the move. If given the green light, the department says the move would likely happen this year.
