Gower Man Killed in Three-Vehicle DWI Crash Wednesday

A Gower man was killed, and a Kansas City man charged, in a Wednesday accident in Buchanan County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on U.S. 169, five miles south of Saint Joseph, when a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Kansas City resident Joel S. Queener was heading northbound.
Troopers say Queener failed to drive on the right half of the roadway and crossed the center line.
Queener’s vehicle side-swiped an oncoming southbound vehicle being driven by 71-year-old Savannah resident Welma L. Johnson.
Queener’s vehicle then rotated counter-clockwise and struck another southbound vehicle being driven by 76-year-old Gower resident Steve M. Petrovick.
Petrovick was pronounced dead at the scene.
Johnson suffered minor injuries and was taken to Mosaic Medical Center for treatment.
No injury information was listed for Queener.
Following the crash, troopers arrested Queener on preliminary charges of felony driving while intoxicated involving the death of another person and careless and imprudent driving involving a crash.
Queener was taken to the Buchanan County Law Enforcement Center and booked on a 24-hour hold.
