Hamilton Man Charged With Attempting to Set House on Fire With Family Inside

DAVIESS COUNTY, MO – A Hamilton man is incarcerated, accused of attempting to set his house on fire with his family inside.

Thirty-one year old Scott Adams is being held without bond on allegations by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department that Adams used fuel and a cigarette lighter to set the house on fire. Authorities say that when Adams could not get the house to burn, he used brake cleaner to set a tote on fire, however his wife extinguished the flames. A probable cause affidavit filed with the court says Adams then struck his wife in the head with the can of brake clean and set fire to toliet paper.

Adams wife and his children were able to leave the residence and call 911 before driving to the Hamilton Police Department.

The Sheriff’s Office says a negotiator and SWAT team responded to the scene to apprehend Adams.

He is now facing charges of attempted arson, domestic assault, armed criminal action and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
