Harrison County Sheriff’s Office to Accept Unneeded Prescriptions

BETHANY, MO – The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office will hold a “National Take Back Day” event this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.

Any unwanted prescription drugs can be taken to the Harrison County Law Enforcement Center in Bethany for disposal. Liquid medications and syringes will not be accepted.

“National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications. Unneeded prescription medication–those that are old, unwanted, or no longer needed – are a public safety issue, too often becoming a gateway to addiction. The majority of opioid addictions start with prescription pills found in medicine cabinets at home. Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision.

A majority of people who misuse a prescription medication obtained the medicine from a family member or friend.
