Haslett Case Sent Back To Grand Jury
The case against an Excelsior Springs man accused of kidnapping and raping a Kansas City woman over the course of about a month is heading back to a Clay County grand jury.
Excelsior Springs resident Timothy Haslett was indicted by a Clay County grand jury last month on nine counts related to the case, but the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office says they have discovered a technical and procedural issue with the Grand Jury that was impaneled from November 2022 until March 2023.
The issue is not believed to present any prejudice or violation of the defendants’ constitutional rights
However, because of that issue the Haslett case, and several others, are being sent back to a new grand jury out of what Prosecutor Zachary Thompson calls “an abundance of caution “.
Thompson says no new charges have been filed and no changes will be made to Haslett’s custody status or bond amounts.
Haslett is being held in the Clay County Jail on a $3 million bond.
