House Committee Grills Malek Over Decals on Video Slot Machines

Members of a Missouri House committee spent two hours Tuesday grilling State Treasurer Vivek Malek over why his office authorized decals to be placed on unregulated video gambling machines.

The decals include the official state seal and advertise the state’s Unclaimed Property division with the sentence: “one billion dollars, is any of it yours?”

Fellow Republican Scott Cupps, who chairs the subcommittee, blasted Malek, saying the decals make it appear that the machines are regulated by the state:

Malek defends the decals, saying they’re spreading the word about the state’s Unclaimed Property division, and that the company that owns the machines paid for the decals – not the state.

Committee members want the decals removed.
