Hundley Whaley In-Person Field Day Approaching

The Hundley-Whaley Research Center is set to host an in-person field day on Saturday, Sept. 11. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Along with traditional field day topics, several other events will be held throughout the day. A Classic Tractor Exhibit will be present, and there will be booths set up in the pavilion with representatives from agricultural companies.

Discussions will be held about trials and successes in controlling Waterhemp, and livestock specialists will talk about native warm season grasses and legumes. Research can also be seen on the demonstration plot at the Center.

A Rantizo representative will be demonstrating the use of drones for applying fertilizer, pesticide, and cover crop. They will discuss the benefit of using drones in crops such as precise in-field applications, lessening soil compaction from heavy equipment, and accessing areas like steep hillsides or saturated soils.

A workshop on modern homesteading will be offered with information on gardening and how to create a lifestyle of self-sufficiency in our modern world.

A self-guided tour of the farm will also be an option for attendees. There will be points of interests marked along the tour with a handout to further explain each research plot. Lunch will also be provided at the event.
