I-229 Resurfacing Project Moving to Asphalt Paving This Friday

A resurfacing project on Interstate 229 moves into the asphalt paving phase beginning this Friday, May 14.

The project extends from the U.S. Route 71 intersection in Andrew County to Route 371 (22nd Street) in Buchanan County and is expected to continue through September.

One lane will be closed around the paving operation, which is expected to continue for the next three to four weeks.

Beginning Friday morning, May 14, weather permitting, the contractor plans to begin paving at the north end of the project in the southbound passing lane.

As part of Friday’s work, crews will also close the ramp from southbound U.S. Route 71 to southbound I-229 and the ramp from northbound I-29 to southbound I-229 (Exit 56B).

Both ramps will close from 6 a.m. to noon.

Crews will complete the southbound passing lane then move to the northbound passing lane.

After both passing lanes are complete, they’ll pave the driving lanes in the same order.

One lane in each direction of I-229 will remain open during the work and a 10-foot width restriction will be in place for the duration of the project.

Crews will work during daylight hours, Monday through Saturday.
