Independent Candidate Running for Missouri U.S. Senate Seat

(Missourinet) The former mayor of the St. Louis suburb of Florissant, Missouri, is entering the race for U-S Senate.

Thomas Schneider is running as an independent and was also an independent during his eight years as Florissant mayor. His announcement comes roughly 24 hours after retired Republican U-S Senator John Danforth told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that an independent candidate with a “message of unity over division” would have a good chance of taking the seat from the G-O-P in November. Republican incumbent Roy Blunt is not seeking another term in office.

Fellow Republicans hoping to succeed Blunt include former governor Eric Greitens, Attorney General Eric Schmitt, U-S Representatives Vicky Hartzler and Billy Long, State Senator Dave Schatz, and St. Louis Attorney Mark McCloskey. Democrats running include State Senator Scott Sifton and Marine veteran Lucas Kunce.
