Intoxicated Driver Arrested after Going Airborne

An intoxicated driver was arrested in Holt County after going airborne.

Two reports from the Missouri Highway Patrol tell of the accident and arrest of 25-year-old Daniel A. Gandara of North Kansas City.

Gandara was driving south on I-29, five miles south of Mound City Monday afternoon at 3:52. The vehicle traveled off the east side of the road and into the grass median, The driver overcorrected returning to the southbound lanes and then driving off the west side of the road. The vehicle struck the ground and went airborne landing on its wheels on the southbound entrance ramp. The vehicle then continued off the ramp, up an embankment and striking a tree.

Assisting the patrol was the Holt County Sheriff’s Office.

Gandara was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway when the roadway was of sufficient width causing an accident, and operating a vehicle on the highway without a valid license.

Gandara suffered a minor injury while not wearing a seat belt and was released to Atchison Holt EMS and transported to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
