Iowa Bans Russian Liquor to Show Solidarity With Ukraine

DES MOINES, IA – Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has directed the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division to remove Russian-produced liquor from its wholesale purchase list. The move was announced today (Monday) as a measure to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine after Russian forces invaded last week.

Iowa is one of 17 states that controls the sale of alcoholic liquor at the wholesale level. Retailers are able to view all delisted products on the Alcoholic Beverages Division website.

Governor Reynolds has also called for Iowa Sister States to end Iowa’s sister state relationship with Stavrapol Krai, Russia and provide recommendations for enhancing its sister state relationship with Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine.
